The Statue of Liberty was reopened for the public on Independence Day this year bringing much cheer and celebrations to everyone. The statue had remained closed since last year when the storm Sandy swamped it in its tidal surges.
‘Rebirth of Liberty’
Learning that the Statue of Liberty has been reopened for everyone, crowds are flocking to the Liberty Island once again. In light of this, security measures have been tightened, particularly at big parades and firework displays.
Following last year’s deluge, the Liberty land had suffered quite some damage although the statue itself remained untouched. Indeed, the value of the damage ran up to a whopping $59 million. However, the neighboring Ellis Island that bore a far worse brunt of Sandy still remains closed.
