Medical pot regulation, a new law governing the use of marijuana, has a pressing problem. Health issues of medical pot manufacturing are not being addressed, according to regulators. There is trouble brewing over the lack of quality control tests and the absence of a policy about contaminated pot product recalls.
Pot, formerly an illegal and prohibited substance, is now widely available in the Washington and Colorado. This new status, however, limits the regulations placed on these recreational pills. “It’s important for us to do it because it’s public safety and there’s no U.S. FDA oversight here,” Randy Simmons, project manager of the Washington State Liquor Control Board, says.
This concerns small-time marijuana medible producers like Julie Guterson. She worries that stricter laws will make her unable to meet the requirements. “We just put our nose to the grindstone and we just keep pumping out medibles for patients. That’s what we’re going to do right now.”
