The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) will send representatives toUrbanna on Monday, October 1, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The group will discuss ways of promoting Middlesex as a tourist destination.
Judy Watkins of the VTC said the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck are authentic Virginia hot spots. “These small towns are what tourists are looking for today,” she added.
Watkins made this statement when she addressed the Middlesex Industrial Development Authority (IDA) on September 20. She told the IDA that Virginia Tourism Corporation’s marketing grants are already available, but require that at least three entities combine promotion efforts.
Recently, three organizations in Middlesex submitted separate grant applications to IDA. These applications have suggested that an organized promotion effort involves the county as one unit.
Judy Watkins also told the IDA how the county could be promoted in the Virginia Travel Guide, and announced that the annual tourism summit will be held in Richmond in October.
Urbanna Town Administrator John Baileysaid, “The meeting on Monday will be a chance for those involved or interested in tourism to gather valuable information.”
The meeting will be held at the Chesapeake Inn at 250 Virginia Street in Urbanna.
